Game of Thrones has been one huge phenomenon since it first premiered in 2011. The relatable, yet extremely entertaining characters paired with out-of-this-world battles and plot twists make it hard for anyone to continue to say they don’t watch the show.

Whether you’re an adamant die-hard or a casual viewer, you’ve probably grown a strong attachment to at least one of the show’s characters. However, it doesn’t take much before the average casual viewer develops an attachment beyond the simple admiration for a single character’s qualities.

Eventually, people start shipping the show’s couples. Maybe you want Brienne of Tarth to fall for Tormund’s puppy-dog eyes and brutish one-liners. Maybe you even shipped Petyr Baelish and Sansa Stark for a bit. But, if neither of those couples made sense, you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn’t support the Jon and Dany romance – incest aside.

Whatever your dreams may have been when it comes to the love lives of the Game of Thrones characters, these images of the actors with their real-world soulmates is sure to crush them.

1. Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo)

While Khal Drogo died years ago in the first season of the show, many Game of Thrones fans are still heartbroken. However, images of Jason Momoa and his wife, Lisa Bonet, give us a little relief. At least Khal Drogo’s actor treks on to live a happy life.

2. Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane)

To those of you who fully support Tormund’s obsession with Brienne: I’m sorry. The actor behind the redheaded wildling seems to be happily married to journalist Gry Molvær Hivju.

3. Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister)

The mastermind behind most of the Game of Thrones ploys may have had more than his fair share of heartache in the show, but the actor behind Tyrion seems to have found his happily ever after. Peter Dinklage and his wife, Erica Schmidt, are happily married with one daughter and another child on the way!

4. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister)

As much as our culture disapproves of incest, there’s still something a bit captivating about Cersei’s explanation of her love for her brother. Fortunately, we don’t need to side-step that ick factor in real life. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, the actor behind Jaime Lannister, is married to a beautiful woman, who is definitely not his sister!

5. Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth)

Most Game of Thrones fans aren’t exactly sure who Brienne of Tarth should end up with. While it doesn’t seem likely that Cersei will let Brienne get away with her crush on Jaime Lannister, Tormund Giantsbane is still up for grabs.

However, even the most devoted fan’s desire for Brienne to end up with the wildling isn’t enough to permeate real life, as the actor behind the female knight is dating Giles Deacon, the fashion designer who created Pippa Middleton’s wedding dress.

6. Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont)

Poor Jorah. His unrequited love for his Khaleesi leaves its own little soft spot in the hearts of many Game of Thrones fans. And his love for Daenerys is doomed to be unrequited forever because the actor is actually partnered with actress Charlotte Emmerson.

7. Carice Van Houten (Melisandre)

Does it crush your dreams that the woman behind Melisandre isn’t as crazy and strange as her Game of Thrones character? It may also surprise you to discover that the actress is actually dating fellow actor Guy Pearce! The two recently celebrated the birth of their first child.

8. Maisie Williams (Arya Stark)

You either fall into one of two categories here: you think Arya Stark is too strong and independent to need a man or you remember the cute romance that sparked between Arya and Gendry in the earlier seasons. Whatever you hope for, neither option is the case for the actress behind Arya Stark.

9. Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark)

The Lady of Winterfell has captivated the hearts of many. Even those who criticize her whining and resistance to learn can’t deny that Sansa Stark’s looks set a high bar for the rest of the ladies of Westeros.

Sophie Turner, the actress who plays Sansa, also seems to have no trouble winning hearts in the real world. She’s currently dating Joe Jonas.

10. Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell)

Margaery’s charm paired with her determination to be queen left her as quite the force to be reckoned with. If anyone knew how to handle Joffrey, it was Margaery.

While we all probably wish Margaery could manipulate and win the hearts of men forever, it looks like her actress leads a much more normal life. Natalie Dormer is currently engaged to Anthony Byrne, an Irish writer and director.

11. Aidan Gillen (Petyr Baelish)

Patrick McMullen; Clint Spaulding

I’m guessing there’s more than a handful of Game of Thrones fans out there whose hopes and dreams would be crushed if Petyr Baelish lives happily ever after. Fortunately, it’s just his actor who gets to be all smiles around his wife Camille O’Sullivan.

12. Kit Harington (Jon Snow), and 13. Rose Leslie (Ygritte)

Game of Thrones may make it hard for us to root for any couple, what with its dangerous plot twists and long history of deaths. That said, sometimes our romance dreams are actually fulfilled. Jon may not get to be with Ygritte, but the actors behind the two characters share the opposite fate.

Kit Harington and Rose Leslie actually just recently got engaged. Those who ship Jon and Daenerys may be upset, but these two lovebirds seem crazy about each other.
