The suspect pulled the officer to the ground, choking the officer and grabbing at the officer’s hand while the officer was holding his gun in its holster. The suspect tried to grab the gun.

Calverton Park police officer Alec Bowes was on patrol when he saw a car speed past him going the opposite direction. He turned around and followed the car. The officer stopped the suspect Markarios Kirkwood, 43, traveling 71 mph in a 35-mph zone.

The officer smelled marijuana coming from the car, and Kirkwood admitted smoking marijuana earlier. The officer ordered him out of the car so he could perform a sobriety test. Kirkwood obliged.

The officer noticed a knife in Kirkwood’s pocket. The officer told him to put his hands on his head, but Kirkwood instead put his hands in his pockets.

Kirkwood tried to run, and the two scuffled. The officer grabbed Kirkwood’s shirt, and Kirkwood pulled the officer to the ground, choking him and grabbing at the officer’s hand while the officer was holding his gun in its holster.

Kirkwood tried to grab the gun, police say, but the officer eventually subdued Kirkwood and arrested him.
