Walmart is changing the game by getting rid of checkout lanes entirely

Tired of waiting in line at the grocery store? Especially when you only have one item, and the longest part of your trip is the line with that rude old man who doesn’t know how to use the chip debit cards even though they aren’t even new anymore?

Walmart has a new solution for you! Technically, Amazon has been planning a similar concept, Amazon Go, since December, but it’s still in the planning phases.

But Walmart is leaping ahead of Amazon and already rolling it out to more than a dozen stores in Texas, Florida, South Dakota, Arkansas, Georgia, and Kentucky.

Here’s how it works:

First, you collect your groceries, scanning each on your smartphone after downloading the Scan & Go app. Scanners are provided for those without smartphones.

Then, you click a button to pay for your goods and show your digital receipt to a store greeter on your way out the door. If you wish to pay with cash, you click ‘Done’ and visit a self checkout register, where you scan a single barcode for your whole purchase.

Incredible, right? I hope this comes to my area soon.
